Exotic Flowers found in the Amazon

The Amazon Forest has a unique relevance for the planet from the ecological point of view and the maintenance of life. Something that must be said about this fabulous ecosystem is that it is not one of the forests richest in beautiful and ornamental flowers. There are some species of flowers that even though they are recognized as from the Amazon are actually of foreign origin and were introduced into the forest environment.

Alamanda (Allamanda cathartica)

The flowers, about 10 centimeters high, that make up this vine have an intense yellow tint that resembles the color of a canary. It develops easily in tropical regions spontaneously or cultivated. It can be very welcome when decorating gardens.

Anthurium (Anthurium SP)

Parrot Beak (Heliconia psittacorum)

Catasseto (Catasetum macrocarpum)

A flower that really deserves the nickname of exotic due to its clashing shape among the other orchids. It usually grows on the trunks and branches that receive more sun, are visited by insects called “bumblebees” that carry out the work of cross-pollination. These are greenish-yellow flowers.

Braba Onion (Hippeastrum equestre)

The name of this plant is due to its stem, underground and bulbous, which has the shape of an onion. This is a plant to be careful with, as its stem is poisonous and can even lead humans to death. It has large flowers with a reddish hue. A plant that is found in rural, sandy regions and that can be found in humid areas.

Mucuna (Dioclea virgata)

It has beautiful and showy purple flowers that are in racemous inflorescences, it consists of a woody vine available in the capoeiras of the region.

Pata-de-Boi (Bauhinia SP)

Its flowers have a pink color and are very similar to catleias, its leaves have the shape of an ox hoof, the reason for the name of this plant. It is a shrub with scandals that is between 3 and 4 meters high.

Victoria-Regia (Victoria Amazon)

One of the most beautiful plants in the world, Vitória Régia, is characterized by its floating circular leaves that can be more than 2 meters in diameter. The flowers of this plant can reach up to 30 centimeters in diameter, open at the beginning of the sunset. While at night the flower petals are white, however, with the action of the sun’s rays they start to present a reddish hue.
